Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Development Planning Ministry/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) is targeting annual economic growth of 6 percent for Indonesia post-pandemic to enable the nation to become developed and break free from the middle-income trap before 2045.

"Even though there is a pandemic and climate change is happening, we have to prepare a vision for Indonesia 2045, which is for Indonesia to be a developed nation by 2045," said Bappenas' maritime and resources deputy, Arifin Rudiyanto, during an online discussion here on Tuesday.

To this end, the sustainable development goals as well as economic transformation, which is part of the National Mid-term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020-2021, are needed to lay a strong foundation for Indonesia to become a developed nation, he opined.

Economic transformation will be needed, once the pandemic has passed, in the long term to boost production, Rudiyanto said.

Such economic transformation must be achieved through the sum total of factor productivity, capital productivity, and manpower productivity, he added.

"The core of economic transformation is that we need to lift the trajectory of the economy, not just (script an) economic recovery," Rudiyanto stressed.

In the meantime, what the government needs to do now is to recover the economy by 2021, which can be followed up with a structural reformation in 2022, he advised.

An economic recovery must be realized through demand-side interventions, such as protecting purchasing power through social aid as well as creating demand through work opportunities and product or service supplies, he added.

The first case of COVID-19 in Indonesia was reported on March 2, 2020. Recently, the government decided to extend the enforcement of community activity restrictions (PPKM) until August 2, 2021 to stem the spread of the virus. (
