Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Transportation Ministry (Kemenhub) has tweaked instructions for domestic air travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic through Circular Letter Number 57 of 2021.

Director General of Civil Aviation Novie Riyanto stated that the circular came into force since July 26, 2021. The regulation aims to curb the transmission of COVID-19 by restricting domestic air transportation.

“Domestic passengers traveling to and from the Java or Bali airports as well as regions enforcing Community Activities Restrictions (PPKM) Level 3 and 4 in accordance with Home Affairs Minister’s Instruction have to bring their vaccination cards (showing they have taken at least one vaccine dose) and RT-PCR test results taken maximum 48 hours before travel,” he elaborated.

Meanwhile, air passengers traveling between airports in regions enforcing PPKM Level 1 and 2 are only required to bring along their RT-PCR or antigen rapid test results taken maximum 24 hours before travel, he added.

“Passengers below 12 years of age are temporary prohibited from taking flights. In addition, the requirements stated above are exempted for pioneer air transport – air transportation in the 3T (frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged) regions. The implementation will be adjusted to conditions in the respective regions,” he remarked.

Passengers exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms are forbidden from going on board despite having negative RT-PCR or antigen rapid test results. They are required to take another RT-PCR diagnostic test and conduct self-isolation whilst awaiting the result, he stated.

Furthermore, Riyanto urged airlines to implement physical distancing protocols on the plane amid the enforcement of the circular letter.

“Narrow- and wide-bodied jets for commercial domestic air travel are allowed to carry only 70 percent of their total passenger capacity,” he noted.

“Airports will continue to conduct operational activities during certain conditions for logistics cargoes, emergency situations, and technical landing,” he remarked.
