Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) is investigating a 30-second video of "glowing objects" sighted in Bandung City's skies, which went viral on social media recently.

"A number of experts are still evaluating this phenomenon," said head of the dissemination division of the Lapan Space Science Center, Emanuel Sungging Mumpuni, when contacted by ANTARA here on Friday.

According to reports on social media, residents recently reported sighting "glowing objects" in the skies of Bandung City, West Java province.

LAPAN has so far not been able to find an explanation for this phenomenon, since the evaluation and analysis are still ongoing, Mumpuni said.

Meanwhile, when contacted separately, astronomy and astrophysics researcher at the Center for Space Sciences, Rhorom Priyatikanto, said that some experts at LAPAN have discussed the video of the incident.

They have argued that the sighting is not related to meteorological phenomena, he added.

However, a detailed analysis of adequate data needs to be carried out, he said. An evaluation of the video of the incident is still being carried out by the researchers, he added.

"The incident was not related to the possibility of a natural object appearing, but it was a drone or satellite. However, we have not obtained sufficient data to draw conclusions," Priyatikanto remarked.
