“No significant impact (is expected) apart from the maximum tides at sea, unless it is along with bad weather at sea,” Djamaluddin told ANTARA here on Tuesday.
A supermoon or perigee moon (when the moon is closest to the earth) was observed at 10.22 p.m. local time on Tuesday night (April 27, 2021).
If the supermoon is followed by high waves at sea, the maximum tides can cause tidal floods that overflow even further into the sea shores, Djamaluddin said.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the perigee moon is 14 percent larger than the apogee moon. Moreover, it is 30 percent brighter than the apogee moon.
