Some 1,100 of the 1,500 aid packages were distributed to people around the Jakarta Garden City housing estate in East Jakarta, according to a written statement that ANTARA received here Monday.
To prevent crowding, the packages were distributed with the help of delivery service applications from Saturday (July 31, 2021), National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo was quoted in the statement as saying.
The Club House Jakarta Garden City, Cakung, East Jakarta served as the pick-up point for the packages from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Western Indonesia Time).
"This is a form of national police force's concern for the community affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the service of the 1991 Police Academy (Akpol) alumni of the Bhara Daksa Battalion," he said.
Prabowo lauded the alumni for initiating the aid program and committee colleagues for carrying out the distribution of social aid.
Besides distributing the relief packages, the police in Jakarta had also opened vaccination services for 30 thousand people at approximately 91 outlets.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Pol Fadil Imran said that thousands of social assistance packages were also made available in several other cities in Indonesia.
"The COVID-19 pandemic situation has had an impact on the community's economy. Hopefully, this social assistance can slightly ease the burden on the community affected by COVID-19 and during the implementation of community activity restrictions," he remarked.
Under the social service program, named 'Gebrak Baksos Precision Online', residents in need can apply for packages containing groceries through online delivery service applications (Gojek/Grab/Lalamove/Anteraja) for themselves and others, he informed.
A committee will select recipients, verify their credentials, and send the food packages to the address provided by the recipients, he said.
Each of the motorists delivering the packages will also get 5 kilograms of rice under the program, he said, adding that the organizers will also pay the full cost of Rp75 thousand per shipment (estimated at Rp25 thousand per 5 km), he said.
Alumni representative of the Bhara Daksa Battalion, Brigadier General Krishna Murti, said that the initiative was launched to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1991 Police Academy alumni.
He added that the alumni have also distributed hundreds of thousands of food packages and hosted COVID-19 mass vaccination programs.
