Jakarta (ANTARA) - ​Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said the Tokyo Game Show 2021, due to be held in September and October, is a great opportunity for Indonesia to showcases its high quality gaming products.

"We have seen the samples of gaming products, like the ones from Kediri and Yogyakarta. They are remarkable. Our potential is quite promising," Uno said in his weekly press briefing here Monday.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, participants from Indonesia would join the game show virtually, Uno said, adding that Indonesia's participation considers the positive contribution of the gaming industry to the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2020.

Based on the Tourism and Creative Economy Outlook 2020/2021, applications and game developers' contributions to Indonesia's GDP were recorded at Rp24.88 trillion, he said.

"Let's support Indonesia's participation in Tokyo Game Show 2021," he said.

Uno expressed hope that the renowned this Japan's prestigious event would provide opportunities for game developers in Indonesia because the applications and games have become a potential sub-sector of the country's creative economy.

This year's participation is not the first for Indonesia. In 2020, sixteen participants from Indonesia joined the Gamescom. In 2018, Indonesia also sent seven representatives.

This year, Indonesia will bring 30 participants for Gamescom 2021 and 19 participants for Tokyo Game Show 2021. They have been selected by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, as well as the Indonesian Games Association.

The Indonesian participants will showcase their products in virtual booths, and seek opportunities to gain international buyers.
