Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Mandate Party (PAN) Faction Chairman of the House of Representatives Saleh Partaonan Daulay assessed that the government's decision to extend Level 4 public activities restrictions (PPKM) should be followed by improvement in some policies.

"At least, policies on ensuring public adherence to all the rules applied must be improved. PPKM regulations must be strictly disciplined in humanist ways," Daulay noted in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday.

He opined that the extension of PPKM should also be supplemented by the provision of social aid and subsidies for people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Daulay, the PPKM policy did have an adverse economic impact since the businesses of several communities were disrupted, incomes decreased, and household needs were unfulfilled.

"Social safety net, in the form of social aid and subsidies, must be provided properly and be on target. Regions that implement the PPKM policy should immediately and fairly distribute the aid required by the community in an equitable manner," he noted.

Daulay, concurrently the Commission IX member of the House, also urged the government to streamline health services, such as hospital rooms, medical devices, medicines, medical personnel, and other supporting health workers.

He noted that President Joko Widodo had evaluated the implementation of level 4 PPKM. For instance, the number of COVID-19 positive cases had declined, the recovery rates were high, fewer cases of deaths were reported, and hospital occupancy rates were down.

"However, it should be noted that this improvement was still very slow and not significant. Hence, the threat of COVID-19 transmission still looms large, especially in the wake of the spread of new variants," he stated.

Hence, Daulay deemed it rational that the extension of PPKM was still necessary to ensure the people protect themselves by preventing crowding. Related news: House Speaker presses for evaluating effectiveness of PPKM enforcement
