"Argentina praises Indonesia's efforts to provide inclusive digital connectivity to all regions of the country, including the outermost and remote areas. We convey that Indonesia is currently working on massive infrastructure development to ensure that no one is left behind," Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate noted in a press statement quoted here on Monday.
Plate had met with Secretary of State for Public Innovation of Argentina, Micaela Sanchez Malcom on the sidelines of the G20 Ministerial Meeting for Digital Affairs on Thursday (Aug 5).
Indonesia will assume the presidency for the G20 Ministerial Meeting in the Digital Sector in 2022.
During the meeting, the minister discussed the use of digital technology as a solution, including for handling the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises and micro enterprises to access digital markets.
"We discuss extensively about the use of blockchain and digital identity in handling COVID-19, including its relation to the issuance of digital vaccine certificates. The Indonesian government has maximized the use of this technology through the PeduliLindung application, which also supports tracing and tracking the spread of COVID-19 cases," he pointed out.
Indonesia additionally discussed the potential for collaboration in three priority areas -- post-COVID-19 recovery and connectivity, digital literacy and skills, and cross-country data flows -- to be brought up during the G20 Presidency.
The minister affirmed that Argentina will support the Indonesian presidency in 2022 and three priority matters that will be discussed further at the first Digital Economy Working Group meeting in Indonesia later.
"We discuss extensively on plans in the digital field in Argentina and its experiences as the G20 President. Argentina is one of the countries that has supported Indonesia from the start in pushing to upgrade the status of the G20 Digital Economy Task Force to Digital Economy Working Group," the minister stated.
At the meeting, Argentina expressed support for upgrading the status of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group to the G20 Digital Economy Working Group. Indonesia will be the first country to lead the G20 Digital Economy Working Group.
