Hence, it is our duty to protect, improve, and maintain the sustainability of the ocean's natural diversity for our future generations.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral Yudo Margono, deemed security and stability at sea as being among the crucial factors in supporting the development of blue economy.

"We have a crucial role in providing a sense of security to people at sea as well as protecting the ecosystem from environmental damage and pollution," Margono remarked while attending the 15th ASEAN Navy Chief's Meeting (ANCM) virtually here on Wednesday.

The maritime-based economy was a central topic at the meeting hosted by the Royal Brunei Darussalam Navy. The meeting was themed "Blue Economy: We Care, We Prepare, We Prosper."

The blue economy concept aims to build a sustainable economy by utilizing all potential of maritime resources in the country and the region, Margono said as quoted from his written statement.

“If we can manage the oceans sustainably and appropriately, we will become a prosperous maritime nation in future. Hence, it is our duty to protect, improve, and maintain the sustainability of the oceans’ natural diversity for our future generations," Margono affirmed.

He also emphasized that the Indonesian Navy remained committed to maintaining stability in Indonesian marine regions -- both individually and in cooperation with other ASEAN countries -- as Indonesia has the largest territorial waters and exclusive economic zone.
