Several of our friends (with disabilities) do not have registered Citizens Identity Number.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A dearth of data has turned out to be an impediment for the government to fulfill the basic needs of people with disabilities, according to the President's Special Staff Angkie Yudistia.

"Several of our friends (with disabilities) do not have registered Citizens Identity Number," Yudistia noted during an online seminar titled "Fulfillment of the Right and the Protection of Person with Disabilities during the Pandemic" on Friday.

This is despite the fact that citizenship documents are a basic right and the primary factor in boosting the prosperity of people with disabilities, Yudistia emphasized.

With these documents, people with disabilities can avail health facilities, social aid, as well as national economic recovery program from respective ministries.

To address the issue of citizenship documents, data recording and inclusive planning for people with disabilities are prioritized in Government Regulation No. 70 of 2019 on Management and Evaluation Planning for rights of people with disabilities.

"We, the central government, will conduct cross-sectoral collaboration, so that the rights of people with disabilities are registered and verified," Yudistia asserted.

The policy aims to increase the people's understanding of disabled people’s ownership of citizenship documents by optimizing the role of data.

These citizenship documents comprise birth certificate, family certificate, death certificate, marriage certificate, and also the children’s identity card.

To this end, Yudistia, concurrently the founder of ThisAble Enterprise, is using the COVID-19 vaccination as an opportunity to tackle the issue of citizenship data of people with disabilities.

"Friends with disabilities, who do not have their Citizens Identity Number, can be included in their known relatives' or biological family's family certificate. This is since the Citizens Identity Number comes from the family certificate," she expounded.
