Sorong, West Papua (ANTARA) - State-run energy company PT Pertamina (Persero), through its Commercial and Trading Sub-Holding for the Papua Maluku Region, built Pertashops, small-scale gas stations, at 16 locations to serve residents in West Papua.

Pertamina's Communication and CSR Unit Manager for Papua Maluku Regions Edi Mangun noted in a press release in Jayapura on Saturday that Pertashop was an official fuel distributor agent owned by Pertamina that had complied with the legality and Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) aspects.

Mangun remarked that, until now, 16 Pertashops were operating in the West Papua region comprising 10 spread from Manokwari to South Manokwari, two in Kaimana, one in Fakfak, and three in the Sorong area.

Pertashops are being built to continue to provide easy access to people, especially in West Papua, to obtain quality energy, he noted.

Mangun also believes that Pertashops are an important part of the One Village One Outlet or OVOO program being promoted by Pertamina as a solution for people in remote areas, with limited access to its gas stations, to have easier access to energy as compared to before.

People can obtain fuel more easily at Pertashops since they would not have visit the nearest gas station that can be several kilometers away, he explained.

After building Pertashops at 16 locations, he revealed that Pertamina in the Papua Maluku Region still plans to cover more areas in West Papua by collaborating with the local government to ease the residents' lives.

"With the same price and quality as fuel sold at regular gas stations, we are optimistic that Pertashop would be the answer through ensuring equitable energy distribution that will have a sustainable effect on economic development of the residents," he remarked.
