Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta's Marine, Agriculture, and Food Resilience Agency held a virtual fruit exhibition promoting local fruits to boost consumption among Jakarta's residents.

"The rate of fruit consumption among Jakarta’s residents is low. Hence, we are striving to promote the intake of local fruits to boost fruit consumption levels by holding the exhibition," Jakarta Province's Assistant for Economic and Financial Affairs Sri Haryati stated here on Friday.

Apart from encouraging fruit intake, the exhibition also aims to introduce Jakarta’s local fruits, such as 'cipedak' avocado, 'dewi' starfruit, 'condet' snakefruit, breadfruit, and banana, planted in the Seribu Islands region.

"In addition to promoting the diversity of Indonesia's fruits, especially Jakarta’s local produce, the exhibition is also being held to promote the consumption of fruits as a healthy food that is rich in vitamins and minerals that are beneficial for our body," she explained.

At the exhibition, Jakarta's Marine, Agriculture, and Food Resilience Agency Head Suharini Eliawati stated that the fruits on display were sourced from 14 fruit farms within Jakarta and the Seribu Islands region. After the exhibition, the fruits will be distributed to health workers in Jakarta, she revealed.

"The fruits on display here were sourced from 14 farms within Jakarta and harvested yesterday and today morning. We harvested the fruits along with members of the Family Welfare Movement," Eliawati remarked.

The harvested produce for the exhibition comprised 15 types of fruits weighing 250 kilograms in total, 12 varieties of vegetables weighing 100 kilograms, and 50 kilograms of fresh squid, she informed.

Meanwhile, Jakarta's Health Office Head Widyastuti, representing Jakarta’s health workers, accepted the displayed fruits from the exhibition committee as per an earlier commitment to donate the fruits.

Upon accepting the fruit donation, Widyastuti lauded the Agency for holding the exhibition and introducing local foods while giving importance to fruits as potential economic commodities for Jakarta.
