The new business model's success occurred in banking services through the BRILink Agent, with transaction volume that hit Rp800 trillion last year, and this year, it is targeted to reach more than Rp1 thousand trillion
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Digital and cultural transformation became a "savior" for Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) during the pandemic, president director of the public-listed bank, Sunarso, has said.

"By executing this transformation program, BRI as one of the largest state-owned enterprises is optimistic to take the important role to (support) the economic recovery amid hints of a national economic revival," he noted in an official statement issued here on Tuesday.

The transformation strategy that was prepared a long time ago has made BRI record a brilliant performance: the bank's profit swelled 22.93 percent year on year to reach Rp12.54 trillion in the second quarter of 2021, he informed.

BRI is carrying out digital transformation with a focus on gaining efficiency through digitization of business processes and creating new value through new business models, he said.

The real efficiency of the digitalization of business processes has been proved by the BRIspot, a mobile credit processing application used by BRI marketers, he informed.

"With BRIspot, microcredit productivity increased from an average of Rp2.5 trillion per month to more than Rp4 trillion per month. In addition, the credit process became much faster — from a two-week process to around two days," he remarked.

“The new business model's success occurred in banking services through the BRILink Agent, with transaction volume that hit Rp800 trillion last year, and this year, it is targeted to reach more than Rp1 thousand trillion,” he said.

Sunarso revealed that the cultural transformation at BRI was implemented to build a performance-driven culture by establishing a performance management system, which requires an information management system supported by valid and accurate data.

All digital and cultural transformations have been included in BRIvolution 2.0, he said. It was set from 2020 to respond to COVID-19, which has impacted MSMEs, as well as a transformation of BRIvolution 1.0, he pointed out.

"MSMEs that were not affected by the crisis are now in crisis. So, we have to review the BRI transformation," Sunarso observed.
