"Until Wednesday (Aug 25), only 10.80 percent (of the targeted residents) were covered under the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination. Currently, vaccinators are focused on administering the first doses of vaccine," Kulon Progo COVID-19 Task Force spokesperson Baning Rahayujati stated in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta on Thursday.
Rahayujati elaborated that recipients of the second vaccine dose comprised 2,913, or 101.57 percent of the targeted 2,868 healthcare workers; 18,786, or 50.40 percent of the targeted 37,277 public civil servants; 9,041, or 14.34 percent of the targeted 63,049 elderly people; 5,439, or 2.68 percent of the targeted 202,749 vulnerable people and the general public; and 839, or 2.28 percent of the targeted 36,777 teenagers.
"We are attempting to make the second vaccination rate directly proportional to the first vaccine dose rate," he remarked.
Rahayujati informed that the rate of first vaccination was commendable on account of 147,512, or 53.04 percent of the targeted 342,720 residents having received the vaccine. The Kulon Progo district government aims to inoculate 50 percent of the residents by August, 75 percent by September, and 100 percent by October.
Furthermore, Rahayujati revealed that the Health Office had recorded a total of 20,847 COVID-19 cases, comprising 1,104 patients in isolation, 19,345 patients out of isolation, and 398 succumbing to the disease. In the last week, the number of COVID-19 cases had declined in Kulon Progo, making the figure dip to below 150 cases per day.
Good tidings were also seen in terms of the bed occupancy rate at hospitals in Kulon Progo. Only 44.26 percent of the total hospital beds offered by both government and private companies are filled, with 46.72 percent for the ICU occupancy rate.
