A trial for face-to-face learning had been conducted earlier, so we are already trained for the actual implementation
Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA) - Some 482 kindergarten, primary, and secondary schools in Semarang City, Central Java, have begun implementing the face-to-face learning system from Monday.

Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi, who observed the face-to-face learning system implemented at the Public Junior High School (SMPN) 12 Semarang, noted that it was running in accordance with the plan.

"A trial for face-to-face learning had been conducted earlier, so we are already trained for the actual implementation. The situation at schools is under control, and pupils are enthusiastically attending their classes," he noted.

The face-to-face learning system is combined with online learning to accommodate pupils, who continue to attend classes from home, as under the current arrangement, only half of the pupils are attending offline school to maintain the enforcement of health protocols at schools.

Prihadi remarked that the implementation of face-to-face learning was aimed at maintaining social interaction among pupils and reducing feelings of isolation after being confined at home for protracted periods of time.

Meanwhile, Semarang City Education Office Head Gunawan Saptogiri stated that out of the total 482 schools, the public schools that began face-to-face learning comprised 325 primary schools and 44 junior high schools, while the private schools that opened constituted 51 primary schools and 22 junior high schools.

Apart from primary and junior high schools, some 40 public and private kindergartens also commenced face-to-face learning.

Saptogiri remarked that daily activities for the face-to-face learning programme were arranged for four classes, each with a duration of 30 minutes, with schools to implement the offline school system in stages.

"Schools should also educate pupils on the importance of following health protocols at school, at home, and during the trip from and to the school," Saptogiri remarked.
