Jakarta (ANTARA) - The farmer's exchange rate rose 1.16 percent to 104.68 in August from 103.40 in July due to an increase in exchange rate in the food crops, plantation crops, and fisheries sub-sectors, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) said.

"If we detail each sub-sector, the farmer's exchange rate in food crops has increased by 1.39 percent due to an increase in the index; in July 2021, which was 96.31; in August, it increased to 97.65," BPS head Margo Yuwono said at an online press conference, accessed from Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the farmer's exchange rate in the smallholder plantation sub-sector increased by 2.90 percent due to an increase in the index in August to 122.55 from 119.10 in July, he informed.

The exchange rate for fishermen and fish cultivators also increased by 0.58 percent due to an increase in the exchange rate index in August to 104.52 from 103.92 in July, he added.

In the entire agricultural sub-sector, two sub-sectors recorded a decline in the farmer's exchange rate—the horticulture sub-sector and the livestock sub-sector, Yuwono said.

The horticulture sub-sector fell 1.42 percent due to a decrease in the index in August to 100.01 from 101.45 the previous month, he added.

The livestock sub-sector also experienced a decline in the exchange rate of 1.33 percent due to a decrease in the index in August to 99.66 from 101 the previous month, he said.

However, if viewed as a whole, the farmer's exchange rate still increased by 1.16 percent (month on month), he added.

"The BPS also looks at the development of the agricultural business exchange rate. The difference with the farmer's exchange rate is from the price paid by farmers. The agricultural business exchange rate is really for agricultural businesses, including the purchase of capital goods," Yuwono said.

The data presents a picture that is almost the same as that for the farmer's exchange rate, namely an increase of 1 percent (month on month), which is supported by the food crops, smallholder plantations, and fisheries sub-sectors, including fishermen and fish cultivators, he noted.

The agricultural business exchange rate for food crops increased by 1.24 percent due to an increase in the index in August to 97.79 from 96.60 in July, he said.

The agricultural business exchange rate for smallholder plantations also increased by 2.58 percent due to the agricultural business exchange rate index of the sub-sector in August rising to 123.04 from 119.94 in July, he added.

The fisheries sub-sector also made a positive contribution to the total value of the agricultural business exchange rate in August, which increased by 0.51 percent compared to July, he said.

The fishery sub-sector includes fishermen and fish cultivators, and each group contributed 0.47 percent and 0.60 percent, respectively, to the increase in the agricultural business exchange rate in August, he added.
