Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Agriculture Ministry has raised the target for national dry unhusked rice production for 2022 to 55.20 million tons from 54.65 million tons in 2020, a senior official has informed.

“The target of our main commodity production is 55.20 million tons for (dry unhusked) rice, 20 million tons for corn, and 20 million tons for soybean,” secretary general of the Agriculture Ministry, Kasdi Subagyono, said at a hearing with Commission IV of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the Parliament Building in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The ministry has also set the production target for other commodities: cacao at 780 thousand tons, onion at 1.64 million tons, coffee at 795.45 thousand tons, chili at 2.87 million tons, sugar at 2.3 million tons, garlic at 91 thousand tons, coconut at 2.86 million tons, and beef at 0.44 million tons, he informed.

Compared to 2020, the target of dry unhusked rice production in 2022 has only increased slightly, Subagyono noted. According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesia’s dry unhusked rice production stood at 54.65 million tons, or equal to 31.33 million tons of rice, in 2020, he said.
