During the PON event, telecommunications traffic will be significantly large, as E-sports is also one of the sports branches that will be contested in the National Games.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has said that it has readied support for the telecommunications network for the PON XX National Games in Papua.

"BAKTI supplies backups for telecommunication networks," BAKTI president director Anang Latif told ANTARA here on Tuesday.

TelkomGroup has become the official partner of Papua's PON XX for telecommunications infrastructure, Latif said.

Currently, BAKTI has the widest infrastructure in Papua out of the three existing mobile operators in the region, he said.

BAKTI uses the backbone infrastructure of the East Palapa Ring to reserve the network that TelkomGroup already possesses, he informed.

Network backups from BAKTI will be used for many scenarios, such as for excessive traffic communication and network snaps, he said.

"During the PON event, telecommunications traffic will be significantly large, as E-sports is also one of the sports branches that will be contested in the National Games," he said.

Therefore, the government has prepared telecommunication reserves, especially at the locations of the matches, athlete accommodation facilities, and for event organizers, Latif said.

During a webinar earlier, an official from the Communication and Informatics Ministry had stated that mobile connectivity for Papua PON XX will be supported by Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo, and XL Axiata.

The ministry has also conducted signal measurements at PON XX sports venues in Jayapura City and the districts of Jayapura, Mimika, and Merauke, he said.

The ministry, through BAKTI, has made a priority of accelerating the development of the telecommunication infrastructure in 12,548 blank spot points, he added.

Blank spots are areas that are not reached by mobile signals. Out of the 12,548 blank spots, 4,519 are in Papua, he noted.

For this year, BAKTI has targeted the construction of base transceiver station (BTS) towers at 4,200 points in underdeveloped, foremost, and outermost areas, including in Papua, Latif said.

According to the government, the development of the telecommunications infrastructure in Papua will continue and be bolstered even after PON ends.
