Palangka Raya (ANTARA) - At least 12,268 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in Palangka Raya since the first infection was detected in the city in 2020, Mayor Fairid Naparin has revealed.

"The total of patients in Palangka Raya who recovered from COVID-19 until yesterday reached 12,268 after an additional 11 patients recovered," he said in Palangka Raya on Monday.

Currently, around 94.86 percent of the 12,933 COVID-19 patients recorded in the city have made a complete recovery, he added.

In spite of the positive development, citizens must continue to adhere to the health protocols through a disciplined approach, he said.

According to data provided by the Palangka Raya COVID-19 Task Force, 162 people, or 1.25 percent of the infected residents, are still undergoing treatment in the city.

Meanwhile, 503 people have died of COVID-19 in the city so far.

The data was collected from all parts of Palangka Raya city, including 30 villages within its jurisdiction, the task force said. The increase recorded in the number of COVID-19 cases has been attributed to the government's concern and commitment to conducting tracing and tracking activities, according to officials.

The Palangka Raya city government, through the COVID-19 Task Force, has made several efforts to stem the spread of COVID-19 ranging from disseminating information, conducting early detection, and ensuring security in the case-handling process, the mayor said.

The city government has also urged residents to follow health protocols to minimize the potential risk of the pandemic while emphasizing that the pandemic is unlikely to end anytime soon.

It has also imposed stricter micro-scale community activity restrictions to reinforce prevention and COVID-19 handling on a smaller scale.

The enforcement of micro-scale public activity restrictions has been effective in prevention, early detection, and implementation of health protocols, Naparin said.

He stressed that his administration will constantly seek public participation, down to the RT/RW (neighborhood and community) level, to check the spread of COVID-19.
