Palangka Raya, Central Kaliman (ANTARA) - Central Kalimantan's city of Palangka Raya has recorded 10,234 COVID-19 recoveries ever since the first infection was detected in the city, Mayor Fairid Naparin informed on Tuesday.

"The total number of patients who recovered from COVID-19 is 10,234 people until yesterday, after an additional recovery of 71 people," he stated.

He said that 84.07 percent of the 12,173 confirmed positive patients had recovered. The percentage kept increasing after it was previously pegged at 83.65 percent on Sunday, and 84.04 percent on Monday, he added.

Despite the good news, the mayor urged the public to remain cautious and apply strict health protocols.

Moreover, the COVID-19 task force has recorded 24 additional positive cases, he pointed out.

The task force data has also shown that 1,468 (12.06 percent) of the confirmed positive patients remain hospitalized.

Till date, a total of 471 people in Palangka Raya have died of the deadly virus, the task force has reported.

The data was collected from all parts of Palangka Raya City, which comprises 30 villages. The decline in COVID-19 cases was the result of the government's concern and seriousness in conducting tracing and tracking activities, Naparin said.

The COVID-19 task force team, has continuously made efforts, ranging from socialization, early detection, and ensuring the security of case handling, to stem the spread of COVID-19, he said.

It has also asked the public to follow the health protocols to minimize potential risks and implemented stricter micro-scale community activity restrictions to reinforce prevention and COVID-19 handling at smaller levels, he added.

To anticipate the lack of oxygen supply in handling COVID-19 patients at the local hospitals, the local government has also continued to coordinate with various stakeholders, both the provincial government and oxygen gas distributors, he informed.
