We will allocate to meet basic needs and allot village direct cash benefits under the 2021 poverty eradication program to the five priority districts with cases of extreme poverty
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin confirmed that two additional social benefits will be allocated to regions with cases of extreme poverty to bring down the rate to zero percent by the end of 2021.

"We will allocate to meet basic needs and allot village direct cash benefits under the 2021 poverty eradication program to the five priority districts with cases of extreme poverty," Vice President Amin stated at the coordination meeting on extreme poverty eradication in Semarang, Central Java, on Thursday.

The basic needs of people in Central Java, among the seven priority provinces in the program, will be covered in addition to village direct cash benefits allocated for the districts of Banyumas, Banjarnegara, Pemalang, Kebumen, and Brebes where cases of extreme poverty were recorded.

Another 30 districts in West Java, East Java, Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, Papua, and West Papua will also receive social benefits under this year's extreme poverty alleviation program.

In a bid to bring down extreme poverty to zero percent, the government has conceived a plan for social benefits and empowerment program in the priority districts to boost the residents' livelihood and economy, the vice president stated.

For this year's poverty eradication program, the government has planned to offer social benefits to the priority regions, while the empowerment program for the priority regions' residents would follow in early 2022, according to Amin.

To achieve the program's goal in Central Java, the vice president expects support of the provincial and district authorities by analyzing requisite means and programs to eradicate extreme poverty in the region.

"I expect you to study the central government's extreme poverty eradication program and conceive a plan for its implementation to ensure effective execution and direct delivery of benefits to poor families in the province's five priority districts," he remarked.
