Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - South Sulawesi weightlifter Rahmat Erwin, who won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, defeated six of his rivals in the men's 81-kilogram weightlifting event at the Papua National Sports Week (PON) XX.

The 20-year-old athlete recorded a total load of 340kg at the competition, which was held at the Cenderawasih University Auditorium, Jayapura district, Papua on Thursday afternoon.

His debut in the national sporting event went smoothly. He did three snatches of 140kg, 145kg, and 150kg well.

Erwin only failed in his last clean and jerk attempt to lift 200kg after succeeding in registering the 180kg and 190kg loads previously.

Meanwhile, the silver medal winner, East Java's Choirul Anwar, recorded a total of 306kg weights with a snatch of 133kg and clean and jerk of 173kg.

The bronze medal was pocketed by Bali's Ketut Ariana with a snatch of 137kg and clean and jerk of 168kg, with the total lift reaching 305kg.

In addition to the three lifters, Nazaruddin from East Kalimantan, Tunggal Arianto from Lampung, Bambang Wijaya from North Sumatra, and Okik Dwi Cahyono from East Java also participated in the men's 81-kg weightlifting final.
