Papua (ANTARA) - Central Java weightlifting athlete Diah Ayu Permatasari broke the national record on Friday by successfully lifting 120kg in the clean and jerk at the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua.

“This afternoon, I have finally achieved my biggest achievement throughout my career as a lifter. Previously, I have broken the record by lifting 112kg in Pre-PON in Bandung, West Java in 2019,” Permatasari said here on Friday.

The lifter collected a total of 215kg (95kg in the snatch and 120kg in the clean and jerk) to grab a gold medal for the Central Java contingent.

She broke her own national record of 112kg in the clean and jerk--which she had achieved in the 2019 pre-PON-- to lift 115kg and broke the national record again as she successfully lifted 120kg.

According to Permatasari, her biggest motivation to win at Papua PON were her parents, who passed away in 2014 and 2016, and her husband and coach who came to support her at the auditorium of Cenderawasih University, Jayapura, Papua on Friday.

On Friday, she bagged gold by defeating three lifters: Yuliani Gena from Lampung, Gusti Melinda from Jambi, and Sari Mayang from West Sumatra.

The XX Papua PON is being held from October 2 to October 15, 2021. At least 6,400 athletes and 3,500 officials from 34 provinces across Indonesia are participating in the National Games, which are featuring 37 sports.

The event was officially opened by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Sentani, Jayapura, Papua, on Saturday (Oct 2).
