Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - The Kampung Harapan Shooting Range in Jayapura District, the venue for Papua PON's shooting competition, has the capability for holding world championships because it meets international standards, a West Java official has said.

"This shooting arena is ideal to be used as the location of national and international championships," West Java shooting team coach I Ketut Wahyu Adhidarma told ANTARA in Jayapura on Friday.

According to Adhidarma, the presence of the Kampung Harapan Shooting Range is an opportunity to groom Papuan shooter athletes.

"This arena should be managed properly because it is ideal. This shooting field is no different from other arenas that also meet international standards," he said.

Regarding the implementation of PON's Papua shooting competition, he affirmed that the facilities' shortcomings in the new arena bore no relation to his team winning nine gold medals to reach the target set by the National Sports Committee (KONI) of West Java.

"There may be some matters that need to be corrected. We are not the only ones who see the shortcomings (of the implementation) because all participants also certainly feel the same," he revealed.

Athletes at the PON Papua shooting competition were well aware of the different situation at the 20th PON, Adhidarma added.

"We brought our own weapons. However, the ammunition was provided by the PB Perbakin (Indonesian Shooting Association) and not by each contingent," he explained.

The ammunition was provided by PB Perbakin to avoid ammunition displacement by unknown parties, he said.

West Java added two more gold medals on Friday afternoon to its previous six gold medals in shooting.

The two additional golds were won in the women's group 10 meters air pistol and the women's group 50 meters rifle 3 competitions.

The women's group 10 meters air pistol competition was won by Ni Putu Sri Rachmawati and Kinanthi Ulfa Aristi, while the women's group 50 meters rifle 3 event was won by Audrey Zahra Dhiyaanisa and Citra Dewi Resti.

Earlier, West Java's Audrey Zahra Dhiyaanisa had struck gold in the women's individual 10 meters air rifle competition, Fathur Gustafian in the men's individual air rifle competition, Anang Yulianto in the men's 25 meters rapid fire pistol competition, and more gold medals were won in the women's 10 meters air rifle, men's 10 meters air rifle, and mixed-team's 10 meters air rifle competitions.
