Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini (Risma), on Tuesday urged newly graduated students of Bandung Social Welfare Polytechnic (Poltekesos) to help solve the social problems seen in the community.

"There are many social problems that are heavy to tackle; hence, with the knowledge that you have learned, let's help overcome the social problems in our country," she remarked while delivering a speech at the Poltekesos commencement, according to a written statement released here on Tuesday.

A total of 364 students of Bandung Social Welfare Polytechnic graduated on Tuesday, 18 of whom obtained their Master's degrees in Applied Social Work and the rest obtained Bachelor's degrees in the same program.

The minister requested the graduates to help solve the nation's problems through innovations and working together.

She also invited the graduates to understand Revolution 4.0 and 5.0.

According to her, Revolution 4.0 and 5.0 have brought significant changes in various aspects of life, especially in the way people think and live, and the patterns of their social relations.

Moreover, she argued, the challenges in social welfare development are complex and dynamic.

Citing an example, Rismaharini recalled when she asked her team to build an electronic wheelchair for the Social Welfare Service (PPKS) to help those who are severely disabled and cannot use a regular wheelchair.

Graduation is the beginning of a real challenge, the minister remarked. She then shared her experiences and motivations to encourage graduates to start working for the nation, so that later they become successful and prove useful for their surrounding community.

"It is not the end, but it is the beginning. We should be the best for ourselves and for our country. In the future, you are demanded to dedicate yourself to our beloved nation in serving the society," she said.

Furthermore, head of the research education and social extension agency (BP3S), Hartono Laras, said that learning at Poltekesos Bandung follows the curriculum of social work technology, application, and development, with 30 percent focus on theory and 70 percent on practice. (
