We expect that 57 percent of power plants will use solar, hydro, and geothermal (energy) by 2035.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif underlined Indonesia’s commitment to stop the utilization of coal-fired power plants (PLTU) at the Indonesian Pavilion at the 26th Conference of Parties (COP) in Glasgow, Scotland.
"We will start the first phase of halting the use of PLTU and reducing the use of diesel in 2031. We expect that 57 percent of power plants will use solar, hydro, and geothermal (energy) by 2035," he said, according to a statement received here on Tuesday.
In addition, according to the minister, Indonesia's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) can be achieved by reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the energy sector by 314 million tons by 2030.
Tasrif affirmed that no additional PLTU projects will be commissioned in Indonesia from 2026 to 2030, The nation will only complete existing projects: the ones being built and the ones for which contracts have been signed, he informed.
Furthermore, the second phase of the PLTU phaseout will be conducted from 2036 to 2040, and will apply to sub-critical, critical, and super-critical plants, the minister said.

During the period, the government will seek to boost the use of renewable energy utilization to 66 percent by predominately using solar, hydro, and bio-energy plants, he said.
In addition, the government will reduce the sales of conventional two-wheeled vehicles, he added.
Furthermore, Indonesia will also massively develop solar panels, which are targeted to supply two million four-wheeled vehicles and 13 million two-wheeled vehicles, Tasrif said.
Meanwhile, from 2041 to 2045, a large-scale ocean tidal power station and the first nuclear generator will start operating commercially in the country, he informed.
In this period, the increase in renewable energy utilization is expected to rise to 93 percent, while the sales of conventional four-wheeled vehicles will decline, he said.
The last period of coal-fired power plant termination will be carried out from 2051 to 2060, he added. Thus, hydrogen will be developed for electricity on a large scale, he said.
