Residents could learn about better farming and marketing methods as well as compare their products with other villages through the digital and IT system,
Palu, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Central Sulawesi authority has launched the Smart Village program by equipping one thousand villages in the province with information technology installations to enhance and boost village development.

"I am thankful and proud, as our province is able to implement a Smart Village system to enhance village development," Central Sulawesi Governor Rusdy Mastura stated at the smart village launch ceremony attended by regional authority officials and representatives from the Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Ministry in Pakuli Village, Sigi District, on Friday.

Governor Mastura expressed hope that villagers would have advanced knowledge on information technology (IT) in a decade, as some one thousand villages in the province would be equipped with IT infrastructure provided under the Smart Village program.

Provision of IT infrastructure would allow villagers, mostly engaged in the farming and fishery sectors, to access new knowledge on agriculture and aquaculture and learn new methods to increase high-quality production output, he affirmed.

"Residents could learn about better farming and marketing methods as well as compare their products with other villages through the digital and IT system," Mastura stated.

Amid the advancing developments in technology, residents should continue to gain new knowledge and innovate that would enhance their quality of living, he remarked.

Meanwhile, the Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Ministry's Village Development and Information Agency Head, Rajali Abdul Rahmat, stated that new programs must be conceived by the regional authority to accommodate village development amid the digitization era.

"Law No. 6 of 2014 on Village instructed regional governments to encourage and provide information and network installations to enhance village development," the agency head affirmed.

He lauded Governor Mastura's commitment to boosting village development through the Smart Village program enacted by the provincial authority.

"A Smart Village system would allow villagers to become smarter and advanced to make a great leap forward for Central Sulawesi's social development," Rahmat stated.
