Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo called on the government to focus on handling the increase in COVID-19 cases in 155 districts and cities in the country.

"The MPR has called on the government to be concerned about the increase in COVID-19 cases in 155 districts and cities and to immediately take steps that can suppress the number of cases," Soesatyo noted in a statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday.

The government can continue to apply public activity restrictions (PPKM), he remarked.

According to Soesatyo, regional governments should stay committed to preventing a higher rise in COVID-19 cases in the regions.

This effort can be made by reminding all residents to not neglect implementing health protocols while monitoring the development of cases in each region, he affirmed.

Thus, Soesatyo stated that in the event of an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, the government can move quickly to suppress the cases to break the chain of transmission of the virus that attacks the respiratory tract.

In addition, he explained that the central government and relevant stakeholders must continue to remind every local government, regional head, and the community to remain vigilant and careful of the trend of increasing cases.

"Although the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is considered to be under control and continues to show an improving trend, we still have to be careful," he emphasized.

The Ministry of Health is striving to ensure that 60 percent of the province's population has received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in November 2021, COVID-19 vaccination spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmizi earlier stated.

The spokesperson noted here on Tuesday morning that the requirement to lower the Public Activity Restriction (PPKM) level is related to the vaccination achievement.

The government is ensuring that COVID-19 vaccine stocks in Indonesia are currently sufficient to achieve that target, she noted.

"This is because vaccine delivery from the producers in right on schedule," she remarked.

Tarmizi affirmed that the military and police would continue to be involved in conducting the vaccination, particularly in the outermost, remote, and underdeveloped (3T) areas.

"Support from the military and police is a form of effort to expand the vaccination process for the people," the spokesperson expounded.
