The puddles of water created by floods last Saturday had successfully subsided in less than six hours
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria affirmed that floods in Jakarta would not last for days, as the government had applied a host of flood prevention and mitigation measures.

"During this rainy season, several areas in Indonesia are affected by floods for days or weeks. Thank God, in Jakarta, we do not have puddles of water lasting for days," Patria stated at the Jakarta City Hall, Monday.

The Jakarta government had adopted precautionary measures, including cleaning gutters and culverts. The local government has also built ponds and infiltration wells, reservoirs, and polders, as well as readied water pumps.

"We have implemented various programs and made preparations, including an early warning system in every urban village in over 267 areas, and there was also in place an early warning system for rains," he pointed out.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan had earlier targeted floods in the capital to recede within six hours after the rains halted or six hours after the river waters receded.

Acting Chief Executive of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Sabdo Kurnianto remarked that flooding in several areas in East Jakarta and South Jakarta on November 13 had subsided in less than six hours due to the hard work of various organizations and the local government.

"The puddles of water created by floods last Saturday had successfully subsided in less than six hours," he noted.

Kurnianto stated that floodwaters in most areas affected by floods in East Jakarta can recede in about two hours, with water levels reaching heights of 40-60 cm in the villages of Cipinang Melayu, Makasar, and Kebon Pala.

Meanwhile, the floodwaters can recede in about three to four hours in areas in the villages of Cililitan, Tengah, and Rambutan.

"The Jakarta provincial government's joint personnel immediately act to address the problems of puddles and floods. With high-intensity rains in the city, all levels of the Jakarta provincial government will always be on alert to minimize the impact of floods," he added.
