This is good news for all of us and a matter of great pride for this new circuitCentral Lombok, W Nusa Tenggar (ANTARA) - The Mandalika Grand Prix Association (GPMA) confirmed that the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit had received homologation clearance from the Federation Internationale de Motorcyclisme (FIM) ahead of the closing of the World Superbike series.
Based on a field inspection conducted by FIM on November 18, Mandalika Circuit was deemed safe for holding the 2021 FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK).
"This is good news for all of us and a matter of great pride for this new circuit," MGPA President Director Ricky Baheramsjah noted in an official statement obtained here on Friday.
Mandalika Circuit has proven to be a feasible and qualified circuit that meets the requirements to hold an international motorcycle racing event, he remarked.
Construction of the Mandalika Circuit in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) was completed within a period of 14 months.
The homologation test is a process to assess all aspects of racing according to standards in order to obtain a license or permit as a requirement to hold a race.
The homologation test includes several aspects, such as asphalt track, run-off area, guardrail, pit building, as well as health facilities at the circuit, which need to be considered to ensure race safety.
"Completion of the homologation test boosts our enthusiasm to be more all out in holding a series of WSBK races starting from this Friday," Baheramsjah noted.
The Pertamina Mandalika Circuit will host the 13th series, as the closing of the WSBK season that will determine the world title on November 19-21.
Toprak Razgatlioglu of the Pata Yamaha team and reigning world champion Jonathan Rea of the Kawasaki Racing Team are the two riders likely to win the title this year when they are 30 points apart in the standings.
Meanwhile, 62 points are up for grabs from two races and one Superpole race for 10 laps this weekend.
The Pertamina Mandalika Circuit will also host the MotoGP pre-season test in February 2022 before holding the second series of MotoGP on March 20, 2022.
