Jakarta (ANTARA) - The education pattern must change according to the era, director of resources at the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology of the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry, Dr. Mohammad Sofwan Effendi, has said.

"The challenges faced by students today are very different. The challenges by us as educators lie in preparing them to adapt and be able to go towards a bright future," he remarked here on Friday.

He stressed that the need for human resources cannot be met on the basis of past educators' experience because today's demands are very different.

Educators must be able to change the pattern of education to fit with the times, he said. In the era of Industrial Revolution 3.0, humans were required to produce knowledge, while in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, they are required to innovate, he noted.

“Human resources must be able to have potential or what is called multi-talented. We have to run fast to be able to compete in the global market,” he explained.

The Independent Learning of Freedom Campus (MBKM) policy could better strengthen the potential of human resources, both inside and outside the campus, Effendi said.

"The learning process can happen anywhere and anytime. In this case, technology is playing an important role in providing quality education in the digital era," he remarked.

Digital literacy has an important role in the development of the Independent Learning of Freedom Campus policy, he informed. Educators can offer interesting content to learn, and universities can present digital learning so that development can be managed, he said.

Meanwhile, Rector of Universitas Terbuka Prof. Ojat Darojat said the COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed the way people live and learn.

“We are all witnesses of history, in which the pattern of distance learning, or what is known as online learning, is eventually experienced by the community. Distance education is one of the learning options at this time,” Darojat noted.

He deemed digital literacy important, saying it must be developed and understood on a large scale. The policy issued by the ministry will be a major help for students in facing the future, he said.

He then urged educators to prepare students so they are ready to compete in the future.
