Cilacap (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded residents in South Central Java and Central Java's mountains of likely extreme weather despite the tropical Paddy cyclone in the Indian Ocean of South Java having weakened.

"The tropical Paddy cyclone had weakened. Based on data from the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC) in Jakarta, the Paddy cyclone, as of November 24, at 01.00 local time, was located at 780 kilometers south-southwest of Cilacap," Head of the BMKG Technician Group, Teguh Wardoyo, stated at the Cilacap Meteorological Station Tunggul Wulung, Wednesday.

The tropical Paddy cyclone is moving westward at a speed of four knots or seven kilometers per hour away from the Indonesian territory, while the maximum wind speed reaches 35 knots, or 65 kilometers per hour, he affirmed.

Despite having weakened and moved away from the Indonesian territory, the former tropical cyclone Paddy still had an indirect impact on weather conditions in the southern Central Java region and the central mountains of Central Java.

The area is still prone to experiencing extreme weather conditions, such as rains of moderate to heavy intensity along with strong winds and lightning.

"Based on the BMKG forecast, La Nina has currently strengthened to the moderate mode that could increase monthly rainfall of 20 to 70 percent," Wardoyo noted.

To this end, Wardoyo has appealed to people in the southern and central highlands of Central Java, especially those residing in areas prone to flooding and landslides, to stay alert to the possibility of hydrometeorological disasters.

Wardoyo also remarked that the ex-tropical cyclone Paddy had an impact on increasing wave heights in the southern waters of West Java, Central Java, and Yogyakarta as well as the southern Indian Ocean of West Java-Yogyakarta.

The wave height in the southern waters of West Java-Yogyakarta and the southern Indian Ocean of West Java-Yogyakarta might reach 2.5 to four meters or fall in the high category.

"Hence, we issue an early warning of high waves in the southern waters of West Java-Yogyakarta and the southern Indian Ocean of West Java-Yogyakarta that is valid until November 25, 2021, at 7:00 local time. Later, we will update for further developments," he explained.
