"Until now, we have continued to expedite COVID-19 vaccinations, including today, at Islamic boarding schools, such as the one held at the Walisongo Islamic Boarding School, Ampera Street, Sungai Bangkong Village, Pontianak City Sub-district," Deputy Mayor of Pontianak Bahasan stated in Pontianak on Thursday.
Bahasan explained that all students registered for vaccination had received approval from their parents or guardians in accordance with the arrangements for children.
"I hope that on this occasion, no one feels forced nor is there any fear or worries about being vaccinated," he noted.
Currently, the vaccination rate in Pontianak City is pegged at 74.83 percent of the targeted 400 thousand. This percentage is considered quite high in comparison with other districts or cities in West Kalimantan Province.
The COVID-19 vaccination rate by the end of 2021 is expected to reach 80 percent. Although vaccination continues to be promoted and expedited, he reminded the public to remain vigilant and to not ignore health protocols while conducting their daily activities.
"The goal is to maintain, control, and supervise, so that the COVID-19 pandemic does not spike again," Bahasan stated.
Enthusiasm for the COVID-19 vaccine still remains high among citizens. Thus, the vaccination program continues to be massively conducted, especially at places often crowded with visitors, he affirmed.
"Hopefully, through this massive vaccination, herd immunity would be formed," he concluded.
