Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) expects educational, inspirational, and child-friendly local content to dominate Indonesia's broadcasting media in order to proffer optimal benefits to the people.

Head of the National KPI Agung Suprio expressed this sentiment based on the prevalence of foreign and less-than-child-friendly content currently prevalent in the broadcasting media.

"We still expect that TV and radio (in Indonesia) can create more local content that truly reflects Indonesia," he stated as quoted on Monday.

Inspirational, educational, and child-friendly local content should become a priority on account of the fact that the broadcasting media is the most accessed media in Indonesia according to data collected by the Nielsen Media Research Institution.

This is despite the fact that the broadcasting media also has to fiercely compete with digital platforms, such as audio streaming and Over-The-Top (OTT) services.

In order to create increasingly qualified human resources from the younger generation, educational, inspirational, and child-friendly local content is necessary in Indonesia's broadcasting media.

Such positive local content is expected to be churned out by the media to fill the public space after the analog switch off (ASO) is fully realized.

A similar sentiment was expressed by House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I member Dave Akbarshah Fikarno.

Fikarno expects Indonesia's broadcasting media to apply the "out of the box" paradigm, so that the presented content would be able to compete with foreign media but could still be enjoyed by Indonesian people.

ASO realization at the national level will boost bandwidth efficiency that will enable further development of new broadcasting media, he noted.

This condition should be responded to with the production of educational content within the public space.

"The creative industry should innovate to present content with values that we adhere to, such as mannerism, morality, and nationalism," he affirmed.

"Do not be spoiled and just dub programs from foreign media. This will not support Indonesia's creative industry," Fikarno expounded.
