Once the FIA says go ahead, the committee will announce it directly.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The venue for the Formula E racing event will likely be announced before Christmas after the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) finishes its survey, Head of Formula E (Jakarta E-Prix) organizing committee Ahmad Sahroni has informed.

"Once the FIA says go ahead, the committee will announce it directly," he said after a meeting with Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan at the Jakarta City Hall on Monday.

Earlier, five alternative locations were selected for Formula E, including Senayan and North Jakarta, he informed.

However, the locations are still being surveyed by the Formula E Operation (FEO), he said.

Once the location is confirmed, Sahroni, who is also the Deputy Speaker of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR), said he will immediately report it to President Joko Widodo.

The reason is that Formula E will serve as a form of marketing for the nation, he explained.

"We have to report this to the President, (it does not mean it will involve the President in organizing the event," he affirmed.

In addition, he said that the event would be aired in over 170 countries.

He also expressed the wish that the event would aid the nation's economic recovery efforts.

Sahroni had met with Governor Baswedan to discuss the plan to hold Formula E on June 4, 2022.

"This is one of the activities that we expect would place Jakarta as a part of the global scene and we hope that the event would be a success," Baswedan stated.

The governor appointed Sahroni as the head of Formula E organizing committee. He will be assisted in his duties by the head of the Indonesia Motorcycle Association (IMI), Bambang Soesatyo.

The decision was communicated by Baswedan after he met with Formula E co-founder Alberto Longo, presidential director of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda) Widi Amanasto, Soesatyo, and Sahroni in Menteng on Wednesday.
