Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir has said that Indonesians with disabilities are citizens of the country and thereby, must get equal opportunities.

"They are part of Indonesian citizens who must have the same opportunity. They are no different and should not be discriminated against. God willing, we will continue to take care of the nation's children and be here for them," he posted on his official Instagram account @erickthohir here on Friday.

The minister further said that he had met many people who possessed great talent and did good work despite their limitations.

"I myself have met a lot of friends who, despite all their limitations, have great talent and works," he remarked.

Thohir said he expected leaders of state-owned companies to emerge from the group of people living with disabilities.

The ministry does not discriminate against anyone, he underlined. The minister said that this outlook will be continuously fostered by the ministry.

This is a commitment for the enterprises so that they fulfill their targets and also continue training so that those who have joined have the same ability and fighting spirit, and collaborate with each other by upholding the state-owned enterprises' core values, he added.

In addition, work policies, facilities, and access to technology must be in favor of people with disabilities in office and work-from-home activities, not only during the pandemic, but also in the post-pandemic period, the minister said.
