Jakarta (ANTARA) - North Jakarta Mayor Ali Maulana Hakim said he entrusts the handling of quarantine process for those getting infected by the Omicron variant of novel coronavirus disease to the Indonesian Health Ministry and Jakarta Health Office.

"We believe the Health Ministry and Jakarta Health Office can handle the quarantine process for Omicron cases," Hakim told reporters here on Friday.

The mayor remarked that if the two parties issue directives as precautionary measures against Omicron cases, then the North Jakarta administration is willing to implement them through collaboration schemes with all parties.

However, Hakim remarked that until now, precautionary measures against the Omicron variant in North Jakarta remained the same as in the case of other variants of the COVID-19 virus: the tightening and application of health protocols as well as the acceleration of vaccination.

In North Jakarta, vaccination was accelerated for those above 12 years of age based on identification cards and for children aged 6-11 years.

"Vaccination coverage for the group of those above 12 years had reached 81 percent. However, for the children aged 6-11 years, the process is still ongoing in schools, and the number of vaccinated children is not complete," he explained.

According to the Public Administration and Civil Registry (Dukcapil), 204,009 North Jakarta children of the age bracket of 6-11 years are eligible for vaccination.

With regard to the tightening of health protocols, Jakarta will continue to implement Level 1 Public Activity Restrictions (PPKM) during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Thus, policies based on the Level 1 PPKM regulation will follow.

Nevertheless, Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan still advised residents to not celebrate events that can likely attract crowds during Christmas and New Year.

"It does not mean prohibition in celebrating, but we advise to not crowd. Hence, we will mobilize to disseminate information about this," Hakim added.
