Jakarta (ANTARA) - The eve of Mother's Day celebrations will be held in Sleman District, Yogyakarta, and will be attended by Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga on Wednesday.

Sleman was selected as the location for the Mother's Day commemoration on account of its strong historical foundation. The district is where the first women congress in Indonesia was established in 1928.

"The minister has a very good mindset because this also a part of historical reflection," Women's Rights Protection Deputy and Mother's Day Commemoration Chief Ratna Susianawati told ANTARA here on Tuesday

"She brought back the eve of the event to where the first women congress was held," she noted.

During the eve of Mother's Day celebrations, Puspayoga will open the event at the Mandala Bhakti Wanitama Building, Yogyakarta. She is also scheduled to visit the Indonesian Women Movement Monument Museum.

During the event, the minister will bestow award for the institution leader, who is committed to realizing Gender Equality, Women's Empowerment, and Child Protection.

In addition, she will confer the "Resilient Woman amid the COVID-19 Pandemic" Award.

Thereafter, Puspayoga will flag off a Women G20 Empower activity during the G20 Presidency.

The plan is to have Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengkubowono X and Chairwoman of Indonesian Women's Congress (Kowani) Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo present at the activity.

Earlier, Mother's Day celebrations were held through several activities, such as holding a seminar and webinar on the occasion of 16 Days of Anti-Violence Against Women.

The event was also commemorated through a visit to the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta.

Puspayoga had also conducted numerous field visits, such as for visiting women activists that are still alive, women institution members, and the elderly women craftsman group.
