Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Transportation Ministry has said it is continuing to regulate people's mobility on transportation modes, from upstream to downstream, to reduce potential COVID-19 transmission.

"Even though people are not prohibited from traveling, but we are still implementing health protocols by limiting travel destinations and tightening travel regulations. We are trying to control people's mobility from upstream to downstream," spokesperson for the ministry, Adita Irawati, said on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Transportation has found that the COVID-19 transmission rate from day to day has tended to be stable even though public mobility is quite high, she informed.

The ministry is continuing to coordinate with various ministries and institutions such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, the COVID-19 Task Force, the National Police, and local governments to maintain people's mobility, she said.

"People need to have awareness and stay vigilant amid the pandemic. Because these travel regulations were made for the sake of their safety," she remarked.

For the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, the Transportation Ministry has issued technical instructions that regulate domestic land transportation through Circular Letter Number 109 of 2021, Irawati said.

As per the regulations, all travelers are required to be fully vaccinated, use the PeduliLindungi application, and bring a negative result of an antigen test taken within 1x24 hours of travel, she informed.

Meanwhile, passengers under 12 years are required to show a negative RT-PCR result, with test the sample taken within 3x24 hours before departure, she said.

"That is the main requirement for all passengers using land transportation, both public and private vehicles," she informed.

Additionally, the passenger capacity for public transportation has been limited to 75 percent and transportation operators have been asked to sterilize vehicles by spraying disinfectant, she said.

Irawati added that the ministry has also continued to urge people to be wiser in traveling and advised against non-essential travel.

"People need to be wiser in deciding their traveling plan. They must be wiser in deciding whether to travel or not," she remarked.
