During the G20 Presidency, Indonesia should be able to become a role model to work hand-in-hand in tackling climate change and managing the environment sustainably through concrete actionsJakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia must emerge as a role model for good cooperation for tackling climate change and for environmental sustainability during its G20 Presidency, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has said.
"During the G20 Presidency, Indonesia should be able to become a role model to work hand-in-hand in tackling climate change and managing the environment sustainably through concrete actions,” Amin emphasized during the 2021 Cooperation’s Performance Rank Assessment Program Awards on Environmental Management at the Vice Presidential Palace here on Tuesday.
Climate change management should be pushed, in line with solutions for meeting other global challenges, such as alleviating poverty and achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs), Amin said.
He then urged business players to contribute to handling climate change issues as well as managing sustainable environment, especially in Indonesia.
"I call on business players to actively play their role in tackling climate change issues and managing sustainable environment," he said.
Business players can help tackle climate change by participating in the 2030 Forestry and Other (FoLU) Net Carbon Sink initiative, he informed.
"By participating in such a program, we can help slash the dire impacts of climate change since Indonesia is highly committed to reducing greenhouse emissions," he said.
He also urged business players to show a strong commitment to supporting Indonesia's efforts to meet its net-zero emissions target by 2060.
Meanwhile, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar confirmed that business players are supporting efforts to cut greenhouse emissions to meet Indonesia's global commitment.
"The business world has started its support in reducing greenhouse emissions to meet the global commitment, as what the Indonesian government has conveyed at the COP26 Summit in Glasgow on the 2030 FoLU Net Carbon Sink," Bakar said.
Climate change mitigation measures are related to the development and management of biodiversity-based green open spaces (RTH), she added.
"During 2021, RTH targeted areas reached 286,468.9 hectares across 27 provinces," she informed.
