The police has urged residents not to attend the final match's screening events, and we strongly encourage them to watch the match from their homes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police urged residents to refrain from organising and attending public screenings of the AFF Championship final match pitching the Indonesia national football team against Thailand's team as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

"The police has urged residents not to attend the final match's screening events, and we strongly encourage them to watch the match from their homes," Police's Public Information Bureau head Inspector General Rusdi Hartono noted during a press conference at the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday.

Despite Indonesia having a relatively high vaccination coverage, residents must remain vigilant to prevent the COVID-19 infection, especially after the Omicron variant of the virus has been detected in Indonesia, he emphasized.

Until recently, the Health Ministry noted that 47 COVID-19 positive cases recorded in Indonesia were confirmed to be of the Omicron variant, the inspector general noted.

"We are reminding residents that we are still in the midst of the pandemic situation. The Omicron variant of the virus has also infected some of us," Hartono remarked.

To prevent residents from being infected by the disease, he encouraged residents to watch the final match from their homes while praying for the best performance of the national football team.
