Jakarta (ANTARA) - Directorate General of Vocational Education at the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry has collaborated with several domestic game industry actors to develop the creative sector.

"Some 99 percent of the games circulated in Indonesia are made by foreigners. Their revenue reaches Rp30 trillion annually," Director General of Vocational Education at the ministry Wikan Sakarinto stated at the signing of the cooperation agreement here on Wednesday.

Sakarinto noted that Indonesia has huge potential in developing the industry. Hence, various attempts are required to develop local digital talents.

Moreover, he assessed that the game industry may record stronger growth as compared to other entertainment industries, such as music and movies.

The director general expects the cooperation to generate real gaming products through the collaboration of vocational senior high schools and vocational colleges.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of Business and Industry Sector Partnership at the ministry, Saryadi, affirmed that through the collaboration, industry players will provide trainings to teachers and students.

"The collaboration includes curriculum adjustments, game design, educational competence improvement, as well as link and match to the gaming industry," he added.

Link and match is exploring and honing the students’ competencies in line with those required by the job market in future, so they can get suitable jobs shortly after graduating.

Under the cooperation, the ministry collaborates with PT LX International Indonesia, the Indonesian Game Association, and Cipta Karsa Adikarya.

Chairman of the Indonesian Game Association Cipto Adiguno affirmed that the industry has continued to grow. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the sector had grown by 30 percent.

"The gaming industry is a digital industry that continues to grow. Thus, fulfilling the demand for digital talent in the sector is crucial in future," he remarked.

The government has paid greater attention to developing the industry in recent years, including by holding the Esports President’s Cup since 2019 and contesting esports as an exhibition match during the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON).
