Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesia National Police has planned to establish a special corps for the purpose of corruption eradication after the recent induction of 44 former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) officers to the police agency.

Police's Public Information Bureau head Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan stated that Novel Baswedan and ex-KPK colleagues will be assigned to the ad-hoc Corruption Crime Eradication Task Force prior to the official establishment of the anti-corruption corps.

"While we await the establishment of the Corruption Crime Eradication Corps, ex-KPK colleagues will be first assigned to the Corruption Crime Eradication Task Force," Ramadhan confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.

The anti-corruption corps will be formed by enhancing the existing Corruption Crime Directorate that is currently hierarchically placed under the Police's Criminal Investigation Agency, he noted

The new Corruption Crime Eradication Corps is planned to be a special unit under the direct command of the police chief, and after organizational consolidation, the corps will be established at the regional level, the bureau head affirmed.

"Ex-KPK colleagues will be assigned to the new Corruption Crime Eradication Corps after its establishment," Ramadhan remarked.

Ramadhan lauded the 44 ex-KPK officers for their proven anti-corruption commitment and competency while expressing confidence that the officers will bolster the anti-corruption mission of the Police.

"The ex-KPK colleagues, with competency in the corruption eradication mission, will benefit the police in eradicating corruption crimes," the bureau head affirmed.

Baswedan and 43 other ex-KPK officers have commenced their first day of working for the law enforcement agency on Monday (Jan 3, 2022) after being inducted on December 2021.

Fellow ex-KPK officer Yudi Purnomo stated that police officers in his new unit welcomed him and other former KPK officers with open arms.

"I have been acquainted with some of the officers because we had earlier worked together while investigating corruption cases during my time in the KPK," Purnomo noted.
