Jakarta (ANTARA) - North Jakarta Police and North Jakarta city government jointly rolled out vaccinations for children aged 6–11 years at 15 locations on Thursday under the Merdeka Children's Vaccination program.

The activity will be conducted for up to two weeks and aims to cover 200 children per location, chief of the North Jakarta Police, Commissioner Wibowo, said here the same day.



The vaccination program will cover 01 Pagi Kamal Muara Public Elementary School, Bunga Hati Bangsa Kapuk Muara Private Elementary School, Pluit IPKA Private Elementary School, Pluit Raya Private Elementary School, Stela Maris Pejagalan Private Elementary School in Penjaringan, Baburridho Islamic Elementary School in Cilincing, Naim West Pademangan Elementary School, and Aisyah Private Elementary School North Rawa Badak, he informed.



It will also include 05 State Elementary School South Rawa Badak, 09 State Elementary School North Tugu, and Barunawati Private Elementary School South Rawa Badak in Koja, he added.

Vaccinations will be offered at several other locations under the program: Sungai Bambu Village Office, Tanjung Priok; the Sunter Jaya Village Tiga Pilar Command Post, Tanjung Priok; the Papanggo Village RW 08 Office, Tanjung Priok; and the RW 02 Sunter Agung Village Office in Tanjung Priok, Wibowo said.



Prospective participants will be able to register on the spot by selecting the desired location list first, he disclosed. Sinovac vaccines will be administered under the program, he added.



Vaccinations for children aged 6–11 years kicked off on December 14, 2021, as per President Joko Widodo's instructions.



The Merdeka Children's Vaccination Program was launched online via the Zoom application by National Police chief, Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, and Deputy Minister of Health, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, on Wednesday.

Speaking at the launch, Prabowo highlighted that people have continued to contract COVID-19. Added to this, the new variant, Omicron, has spread in Indonesia and infected some 254 people, he observed.



Of the number, 239 people had a history of overseas travel and 15 people were infected through local transmission, he added.



"And this vaccination is an extended (effort) so that all children in Indonesia get vaccinated for the sake of good health and immunity, considering that school children have missed lessons by about 15 percent, and it is our collective duty to expedite vaccinations so that the spread of COVID-19 and the new variant of Omicron can be stemmed," the national police chief said.
