There will be food challenges in the future thatJakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's PT Gobel International and Turkey's Molino Inc. have agreed to jointly build a food city complex in Indonesia.
PT Gobel International president director Hiramsyah S. Thaib and Molino Inc. vice president Salim Alaybeyi signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) online to that effect on Wednesday.
The MoU was signed in the presence of deputy chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI)/Korinbang, Rachmat Gobel, Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey, Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, and Istanbul-based Indonesian Consul General, Imam As’ari
"The Indonesian Embassy has assisted in exploring the cooperation, along with DPR deputy chairman Rachmat Gobel, in the past year. This is a manifestation of the support for national economic recovery. There will be food challenges in the future that we must find solutions to together," Ambassador Iqbal said in a written statement released on Thursday.
Through the cooperation, PT Gobel and Molino Inc. will explore the possibility of establishing and operating an integrated food industry or food city complex in the halal special economic zone of Gorontalo province, he informed.
The industrial estate will be built using a green industrial estate approach and thus, will operate with the zero waste concept and use renewable energy, he noted.
"From the beginning, I support the cooperation between PT Gobel International and Molino Inc. I believe that the cooperation will offer solutions to one of the most crucial challenges in the future related to food security," Gobel said.

Through the cooperation, the two companies will hopefully be able to meet halal food needs not only domestically but also in other Muslim countries, he added.
"Indonesia has fertile land and a large population, which are two important factors for developing the food industry. As a predominantly Muslim country, Indonesia can become an industrial base to provide halal foods to other Muslim countries," he said.
Molino Inc. has experience developing and establishing food city complexes not only in Turkey but also in other countries, he noted.
It is the largest producer of food processing machines in Turkey and has introduced the concept of food city complexes in Europe, Africa, and Central Asia, he said.
