Jakarta (ANTARA) - Collaboration between the House of Representatives' (DPR's) members, government, and the public is necessary to pass the Sexual Violence Prevention Bill (RUU TPKS) into law, People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Lestari Moerdijat stated.

"I am grateful that the RUU TPKS could be ratified to become DPR's initiative bill," Moerdijat noted in her written statement here on Wednesday.

"The next discussion stage urges the legislators to be capable of taking inputs from the people and the government to be incorporated into the law," she affirmed.

The effort to gather inputs from people to be incorporated into law should be based on a measured study, so that these articles could be implemented.

According to Moerdijat, most of the faction members within the DPR plenary session agree to taking forward the RUU TPKS discussion to the next stage.

It is expected to expedite the ratification of the sexual violence prevention bill on account of the prevalence of sexual violence cases in the nation.

The spirit to offer legal certainty and to ensure prevention, protection, and rehabilitation for victims and perpetrators of sexual violence should continue to be bolstered, she remarked.

Moerdijat explained that this is done to ensure that the produced law could truly provide a sense of security to all citizens from the threat of sexual violence.

The MPR deputy speaker expects that discussion of the bill between the DPR and government can improve the legislation product that has passed the harmonization stage in the Legislative Body (Baleg).

The discussion to streamline the Sexual Violence Prevention Bill is expected to produce a law that could be well-implemented in our daily lives.

Moerdijat is keen that the bill is ratified immediately to become a law to stem the prevalence of sexual violence among people and to ably handle the number of revealed cases.
