The discussion on the bill was not conducted in a hurry, but (rather) efficiently
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad dismissed claims that discussion of the National Capital Bill was conducted in a rush.

Ahmad viewed that discussion on the bill was conducted efficiently at the special committee, so the process had gone quickly and smoothly.

"The discussion on the bill was not conducted in a hurry, but (rather) efficiently, and the same will be followed for the sexual violence prevention bill (RUU TPKS). The special committee for the bill has also kept working during the recess time," he remarked at the Parliament Complex, here on Tuesday.

The House deputy speaker also assessed that the discussion of the National Capital Bill was very dynamic and sometimes the committee discussed a topic back and forth, from one article to another, as a debate was still underway to find a common ground.

Furthermore, he explained that the committee had talked through the opinion of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction that viewed the relocation of the national capital by the government as unconstitutional.

Hence, a decision was taken at the meeting of the working committee on Tuesday (January 18), he added.

"Other substances (of the bill) can be read by the people after it was passed into law," he stated.

On early Tuesday morning, the House of Representatives, government, and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD RI) had approved the National Capital Bill to be further processed during the Level II decision-making stage of the plenary meeting.

According to National Capital Bill Committee Head Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, all committee members have approved the bill to be processed at the plenary meeting.

Tandjung remarked that the discussion of the bill was conducted in a comprehensive manner since the law's existence is deemed as urgent.

According to Tandjung, the Committee has absorbed the community's aspirations through the Public Hearing (RDPU) with various communities.

"We also conduct public consultations by visiting campuses and taking into account all the aspirations, especially from the East Kalimantan area," he affirmed.
