Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria has urged all residents to stay calm but cautious to anticipate possible disasters due to increased rainfall over the next few days.

"What is important now is that we want all Jakarta residents to be cautious. In January, February, there is a potential for an increase in floods; for that, we must be prepared in accordance with the rules and regulations," he said here on Wednesday.

The Jakarta government has also taken some measures to anticipate the impact of the heavy rainfall, he informed.

It has coordinated with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and drafted regulations for dealing with disasters in Jakarta, Patria elaborated.

He said that his administration has also prepared some utilities to deal with disasters.

He further said that his administration has coordinated with law enforcement officers, non-governmental organizations, and community organizations concerned with humanitarian and disaster-related issues to boost readiness for any eventuality.

They have also prepared logistics and infrastructures, such as baby care items and shelters for refugees, he informed.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, in the Greater Jakarta area over the next few days.

The public is advised to remain alert for extreme weather over the next three days (January 19–January 21, 2022), it said.

To deal with any emergencies, Jakarta has prepared personnel from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency, 5,300 public order officers and 10 boats, tents and logistics from the Social Affairs Office, as well as personnel and equipment from other agencies, Patria said.
