Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tidal flood in Jakarta's northern area has become a cause for major concern for the province's government since the Formula E event will be held in Ancol, North jakarta, Deputy Governor of Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria stated.

"The likelihood of tidal flood also became a consideration for us all," Patria noted here on Wednesday. adding that the provincial government of Jakarta has to take precautionary measures against the flood.

"Let us hope no flooding occurs during the Formula E event, and this should also be our consideration to undertake various precautionary measures," he remarked.

Patria respects the decision of the Formula E Operation (FEO) and Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) to hold the Formula E motorsport championship in Ancol at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC).

Meanwhile, Ahmad Sahroni from Formula E's Organizing Committee (OC) noted that the length of the circuit reached 2.4 km while the width was 12 m, and it was shaped like Kuda Lumping, a prop for a traditional Javanese dance.

The 2022 Jakarta Formula E is planned to be held on June 4, 2022, he noted.

According to Sahroni, the reason behind Ancol being selected was since it is a dynamic place, and it is an icon of Jakarta.

In addition, the location will not cause any disturbance to people since public road access to it was closed.

"The location will be closed for a day on June 4, 2022," he remarked

Director of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Tbk Teuku Sahir Syahali noted that Ancol, in addition to being the biggest recreational destination in Indonesia, has also been historically used as a racing track.

"The last time it was used for a race was in 1990, starting from 1970. The track started from here (Karnaval Beach) until the Eastern Gate," he explained.

"Ancol being selected as an E-Prix location will trigger a sense of nostalgia for the car race event to be held there," he added.
