Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, on Thursday, surveyed a location in Cibeulah Village, Pandeglang District, Banten, that was affected by the 6.6-magnitude earthquake that struck on Friday, January 14, 2022.

During the survey, Amin was accompanied by Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini and Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto while conversing with people affected by the disaster.

"This morning, I was in Pandeglang that was hit by an earthquake some time ago," the vice president noted in a statement here on Thursday.

Some houses incurred severe damage, while others suffered mild to moderate damage.

The government is making requisite preparations for the development of temporary shelters and relocation of residents affected by the disaster, as their homes are located in a disaster-prone red zone, he noted.

"The government is deliberating because this is a red zone region. It is mulling over whether to relocate the residents, so that this would not continue to occur," he stated.

"Based on our dialog, the people did not seem to mind," he remarked.

The new location for the residents of Pandeglang will be a better place to live and will take into account the safety of the local people, he explained.

The vice president also cited an example of relocation from a disaster-prone region to a safer location that was conducted for residents affected by Mount Semeru's eruption in Lumajang, East Java.

Within the relocation area, adequate public facilities for health, educational, and economic purposes have been provided for the people.

"The government continues to monitor, observe, and solve any occurring problems. The social affairs minister and the BNPB head will always be on the field to monitor the situation and to repair damaged public facilities," he affirmed.
